Project Benefits:

So far, with your help, we have built 8 new solid but basic homes in the areas where the floods caused major devastation. We are currently benefiting a total of 8 families.

In January 2015, the floods in Malawi left at least 200,000+ homeless and 176 dead.
Torrential rainfall resulted in flash floods, causing devastation across large parts of Malawi. The government declared a third of the country to be a disaster zone. With your help, Drop of Compassion was able to help on the ground.

The Prophet, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, said (Al-Bukhari):

He whom god intends good, He makes him to suffer from some affliction

Can you imagine if you lost everything you owned, including your home?

Where would you live? How would you start again? Who would you turn to? You’ve lost family members, and you’re reduced to living in poverty as you simply can’t afford to build a new home. You start building a home from mud and a thatch roof because that’s all you have. But you know that when the rains come, this will all be washed away. You’d want someone to help you if this happened to you, right?

It’s a reality that people in Malawi are faced with.

There are around 145,000 people currently living in temporary sheltered homes as a result of the annual flooding. These temporary sites are located across six districts and come with poor sanitation, illness and poverty.

These families live under the poverty line of £1 a day and may never be able to reconstruct their homes. The few that may be able to rebuild their homes can only construct mud huts with thatched roofs. This will put them in danger of being homeless again when the annual rains start, creating a never-ending cycle of poverty.

The Displacement Tracking Matrix indicates that:

There are still 145,000 people in temporary shelter sites in six districts.

£1000 covers the cost to build a new home for a family. Drop of Compassion will help these families by constructing basic but sturdy and firm housing that will stand a better chance against the perennial rains.

However much or little you can give, we need your help to give these displaced families a helping hand, a home to live in and some security against poverty. Donate generously, knowing that someone else will be sleeping safe and sound tonight thanks to your generosity.
