Why Zakat Empowerment?

Wouldn't it be great if our zakat empowered others to sustain themselves? This is exactly what our Empowerment through Zakat project aims to do, inshallah. Rather than providing short-term relief, this initiative uses your zakat contributions to offer long-term solutions that help individuals become self-sufficient and improve their quality of life.

By empowering individuals with the tools and resources to support themselves, your zakat becomes more than just charity—it becomes a source of lasting change. Together, we can provide dignity, opportunity, and hope for a better future.

Through your generous zakat, we support individuals in the following ways:

Distributing bicycles in Malawi

In rural parts of Malawi, limited transportation options make it difficult for individuals to find work or access local markets. Your zakat allows us to provide bicycles, enabling people to travel beyond their villages. This simple yet transformative gift opens up new employment opportunities, allows farmers to sell their produce in larger markets, and makes essential services such as healthcare and education more accessible.

Honey farming (beekeeping)

Beekeeping has a long tradition in Africa, but it is rarely practiced as a commercial activity due to a lack of resources and training. Through your zakat, we provide the necessary equipment and education to support honey farming. This initiative offers a sustainable source of income for people living on less than 60p a day. Beyond the financial benefits, honey farming promotes environmental conservation by encouraging the preservation of forests, as trees are used for beehives. Additional income generated from honey sales can be reinvested in purchasing more beehives, further enhancing production and long-term sustainability.

Supporting the Mbuzi (Goat) Project

The Mbuzi (Goat) Project empowers families—particularly through women—to alleviate poverty and achieve self-sufficiency. Goats are low-maintenance animals that provide a sustainable source of income. On average, a goat produces four kids per year, which can be sold for additional income, kept for breeding, or passed on to another family in need. This cycle of giving not only provides financial stability but also strengthens community ties and encourages long-term self-reliance. Through your zakat, we are able to provide families with goats, offering them a practical and enduring path out of poverty.

Helping to start small businesses

Many people living in poverty have the skills and motivation to work but lack the resources to start their own businesses. With your zakat, we provide essential start-up funds to aspiring entrepreneurs. Whether it’s a small grocery shop, tailoring business, or agricultural venture, these opportunities allow individuals to generate a sustainable income, support their families, and break free from the cycle of poverty.

Providing sewing machines to women

Women in impoverished communities often face significant financial hardship and limited employment opportunities. By providing them with sewing machines, we offer a means to earn a steady income from the comfort of their homes. With this support, they can sew clothes for local markets, provide tailoring services, and ultimately gain the financial independence needed to care for themselves and their families. This initiative empowers women to become self-reliant while contributing to their communities’ economic growth.

Providing auto rickshaws in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, many low-income families struggle to find stable employment. By providing auto rickshaws, we give individuals the opportunity to earn a reliable income through transportation services. This not only allows them to support their households but also fosters economic growth in their communities. With a dependable source of income, recipients can cover daily expenses, invest in their children’s education, and build a brighter future.

University Scholarship Program

A scholarship program to support students in completing their university education, contributing to the growth of skilled professionals in Malawi. If sustainable, we aim to sponsor at least 10 students annually, creating long-term impact by increasing access to higher education and empowering future leaders.
