Alhamdulillah, a meaningful step forward for the Mpeka community.
The Mpeka Irrigation Scheme is now supporting 106 families and opening 10 hectares of cultivatable land. What this really means is simple. Families can grow more food. They can earn an income. And they can face the future with less worry.
This project is not just about farming. It is about giving dignity, stability, and hope for the families.
A change and hope for future…
Before we facilitated the irrigation scheme, local farmers worked hard but saw little return in net profit. They relied on rainfall that was uncertain. Harvests were small. Food did not last. Money was always short.
But now that reality is changing.
Local farmer Felesiya Lucius shares what this project means for her community:
“This scheme will improve the life of so many families. Our biggest challenge was food and money. When we cultivate this much land, we will have bumper yields. We will keep some at home and sell some of it. That way we will have less problems. For the school going children, they will have daily food. They will have their basic needs like books and pens which help them. They will go to school with no worries.”
With access to water, families can now grow enough to eat and enough to sell. This balance brings relief to daily life and removes constant stress about the next meal.
Food Security and a Better Future for Children
The impact goes beyond the fields.
When homes have food, children benefit first. Parents no longer must choose between meals and school supplies. Children can eat daily and go to school prepared, with books and pens, and without worry.
As the farmers explain:
“We were harvesting food, but it wasn’t enough, this time around we will cultivate enough to give us food and money.”
This is how long-term change begins. Full stomachs. Focused minds. Children have more time to focus on learning.

Which crops grown there.
Local farmers grow following crops throughout the year:
- Maize
- Beans
- Leafy vegetables
These crops help families meet their daily nutritional needs while creating surplus that can be sold for a profit.
Mpeka irrigation is more than water
The Mpeka Irrigation Scheme brings several benefits to the whole community like:
- Reliable food supply for households
- Income from surplus crops
- Reduced dependence on rainfall
- Better nutrition for families
- Improved education opportunity for children
This is how water becomes opportunity.
